Genre research

The rock genre originated from the rock n’ roll and blues genres of the 1950’s. Over time it adapted to the changing attitudes of the world around it and has stayed relevant for a number of years. Various musical artists such as The Beatles and David Bowie helped adapt the genre and have taken the reigns in spearheading its great popularity. The genre like many others has its own ideology which has also changed over time. Ultimately the genre is a means to express “non-conformity” and political events or opinions which were important at the time.It also has a rather aggressive connotation to it which alludes to the apparent male dominance of the genre. Rock is comprised of a number of sub genres. These are mostly unique and contain a number of distinct musical styles whilst maintaining its stylistic roots to the rock genre. Because of this, there are a number of clothing styles which are specific to certain sub genres.
